When you are visiting with a class or group, please keep in mind these preparation steps and general guidance.
- We need a list of emergency contact information for every person who will be on-site or the information for a contact person at your home institution who can access that student information in case of an emergency. We need this information any time that visitors are not individually registered in the reservation system or have not completed an individual emergency contact form.
- If you will be boating with us, please have each passenger (including instructors) individually fill out our Field Safety Risk Acknowledgement Form prior to arrival.
- Contact land managers for approval to visit natural areas (barrier islands, mainland preserves, etc). Station staff can share contact information, as needed. Land manager approval is required for organized group visits to many areas.
- If there is a tropical storm risk, all visitors must leave promptly.
- Groups with COVID outbreak will be asked to return home.
- Lodging expectations and check out instructions can be found here and should be shared with all visitors: https://abcrc.virginia.edu/researcher-resident-policies
- For those who may not be familiar with fieldwork, are new to the area, or would like a reminder, we have compiled a Field Gear Guide that can be distributed to all visitors. Additional field safety information is available for our site. Staff can help discern which gear is needed and which gear is available to borrow.
If you have questions, please correspond with the Site Director or the staff member who has been helping to coordinate your trip.
